MadeThis Review: Pros, Cons, and Who It's For

I've been using MadeThis.com to sell digital products for over a year. This is my honest, current review — not an affiliate puff piece, not theoretical. This is what it's actually like to use the platform day in and day out.

MadeThis is an all-in-one platform for building a digital product business. It handles:

  • Product hosting and file delivery
  • Checkout and payment processing
  • Product page creation
  • Analytics
  • Affiliate program management
  • An AI co-founder (the Copilot) that helps with business decisions, copy writing, and strategy

The AI Copilot is the main thing that separates MadeThis from competitors like Gumroad or Payhip. It's not just a feature — it's genuinely integrated into how you use the platform.

What I Love

The AI Copilot is genuinely useful. I was skeptical at first. But the Copilot has helped me write better product descriptions than I would have written alone, think through pricing more carefully, and make decisions I would have otherwise guessed at. It asks the right questions and gives grounded answers.

Setup is fast. I had my first store live in under two hours. The guided onboarding removes the usual "I don't know where to start" friction. This matters more than most people realize — the time between "I decided to try this" and "I'm live" directly affects whether people actually launch or abandon the idea.

Product pages look professional immediately. I've seen competitors' product pages and they often look like work-in-progress. MadeThis pages look finished and credible from day one. Buyer trust is not a small thing.

Checkout just works. Payments process, files deliver, receipts send. I've never had a checkout issue that wasn't fixed quickly.

The analytics are useful. Simple, clear view of traffic, conversions, and revenue. I can see which products are performing and where traffic is coming from.

What I'd Change

No built-in marketplace. MadeThis doesn't have a buyer-side discovery marketplace the way Etsy does. You're responsible for driving your own traffic. For some people, this is fine (I prefer owning my own traffic). For others, it's a real limitation.

Video course infrastructure is limited. If you're building a video-heavy course, MadeThis isn't the right tool. I've written specifically about whether MadeThis is good for selling courses — the short answer is yes for written courses, limited for video.

Community features. There's no built-in community or student discussion board. If you want a cohort model or community-based product, you'd need an additional tool.

Pricing

MadeThis has a competitive pricing structure. See the MadeThis pricing page for current tiers — it's changed enough over the past year that I don't want to quote specific numbers that might be outdated.

The honest take: at the paid tier, you get more than you're paying for compared to stitching together multiple tools. The Copilot alone is worth the cost if you're serious about the business.

How It Compares to Alternatives

I've done several direct comparisons:

  • MadeThis vs Gumroad — MadeThis wins on AI features and product pages, Gumroad has more name recognition and a larger user community
  • MadeThis vs Kajabi — Kajabi is more powerful for video courses and community, but starts at $149/month versus MadeThis's dramatically lower pricing
  • MadeThis vs Payhip — Payhip has a better free tier, MadeThis wins on tools and product pages at the paid tier

Who MadeThis Is For

Perfect fit:

  • Beginners selling digital products who want a fast start and useful AI guidance
  • Established creators who want better tools without the Kajabi price tag
  • Anyone selling ebooks, templates, guides, mini-courses, or digital downloads
  • Creators who want to own their customer relationship and drive their own traffic

Not the right fit:

  • Sellers who need video course hosting with native player and progress tracking
  • People who need a built-in marketplace for product discovery
  • Sellers who need physical product or print-on-demand alongside digital

My Honest Verdict

MadeThis is the platform I'd recommend to most people starting a digital product business in 2026.

The AI Copilot changes what's possible for beginners. The setup is genuinely fast. The product pages convert. The checkout is reliable.

It's not perfect — nothing is. But for the vast majority of digital product sellers, it delivers more value per dollar than any alternative I've used.

If you're on the fence, try it. The learning curve is low and the time to first product is measured in hours, not weeks.
