This is one of the questions I get asked most often about MadeThis — usually from someone who's thinking about building a course and trying to figure out whether they need to use a dedicated course platform or whether MadeThis can handle it.

My honest answer: it depends on what kind of course you're building.

Let me walk through exactly what MadeThis does and doesn't do for course creators, so you can make an informed decision.

What MadeThis Does Well for Courses

Selling and delivery. The checkout, payment processing, and file delivery are exactly the same for courses as for any other digital product. If your course is a downloadable ZIP, a PDF guide, or a series of documents — MadeThis handles all of that seamlessly.

Product pages that convert. This is where MadeThis genuinely shines. The AI Copilot helps you write course descriptions that speak to buyer outcomes rather than just listing modules. The no-video course model. This is underrated. A lot of creators assume courses need video. They don't. Some of my best-selling "courses" are comprehensive written guides with structured lessons — PDFs, Google Docs, Notion pages. These work extremely well on MadeThis and they're much faster to create.

AI business tools. The Copilot helps you price your course, position it against alternatives, write the sales copy, and think through your launch strategy. That's a real advantage that dedicated course platforms don't offer.

Where MadeThis Has Limits

Native video hosting. MadeThis doesn't host video the way Teachable or Kajabi does. If you want a traditional video course with a built-in player, lesson tracking, and student progress dashboards, MadeThis is not the right tool for that.

You can work around this by hosting videos on Vimeo or YouTube (unlisted) and linking to them from a document — but that's a workaround, not a native feature.

Student management. MadeThis doesn't have features like student progress tracking, completion certificates, or discussion boards. For a cohort-based course or a program with a community component, you'd need additional tools.

Quizzes and assessments. Same situation — not built in.

The Type of Course MadeThis Is Perfect For

After selling several courses through MadeThis, I've found it works best for:

Intensive guides and mini-courses. A 20–30 page deep-dive that teaches a skill thoroughly. Priced anywhere from $27 to $97. This format sells extremely well, is fast to create, and MadeThis handles it perfectly.

Framework courses. A structured process broken into steps, delivered as a PDF or Notion doc. Buyers often prefer this over video because they can reference it repeatedly.

Resource bundles. A course-level price point for a collection of related templates, guides, and materials. Extremely high margin, great for MadeThis.

Who Should Use a Dedicated Course Platform Instead?

If your primary product is a video-based course with multiple modules, structured lessons, and student progress tracking — look at Teachable, Thinkific, or Kajabi. Those platforms are built specifically for that model.

That said, those platforms are also expensive, complex to set up, and overkill for most first-time course creators.

My Recommendation

Start with what you can create and sell right now, not what sounds most impressive.

A well-written 30-page guide sold through MadeThis.com at $47 will make you more money faster than a half-finished video course on a platform with a $100/month fee.

I've seen too many creators spend months building a "premium" video course and then struggle to make a single sale — while creators with a simple written guide make consistent income from day one.

The platform is a small part of the equation. Your content and your ability to reach the right buyer matters far more.

MadeThis is where I'd start any course — especially a first one. Build it, sell it, validate demand, then add complexity if the market tells you to.
