MadeThis Review: Is It Worth It for Beginners?
MadeThis Review: Is It Worth It for Beginners?
I've been using MadeThis.com as my primary digital product platform for over a year. I've sold templates, guides, and short courses through it. I've also tried Gumroad, Payhip, and Etsy at various points.
This is my honest review — what MadeThis gets right, what it's still working on, and specifically whether I'd recommend it to someone just starting out.

Short answer: yes. Long answer: read on.
What Is MadeThis, Actually?
MadeThis isn't just a digital product storefront. The positioning that sets it apart is the "AI co-founder" concept — it's built to help you not just sell products but build a business around them.
The core features:
- Product listings with checkout and automatic file delivery
- AI co-founder that helps you write product descriptions, develop product ideas, and think through business strategy
- Store customization
- Email capture and customer management
- Analytics for your products and store
It's more opinionated than something like Gumroad, which is a pure platform. MadeThis has a point of view about how to build a digital product business, and the product reflects that.
The Setup Experience
Setting up my first product on MadeThis took about 45 minutes from account creation to published product page.
That included:
- Creating an account (no credit card required)
- Creating a product listing
- Uploading my file
- Using the AI tool to draft a product description
- Setting my price
- Creating a thumbnail in Canva (they don't create the thumbnail for you, but the platform tells you what specs to use)
- Publishing
The AI description assistant is where I spent most of that time, and it was worth it. I described my product — a Notion template for freelance client management — and explained who it was for and what problem it solved. The AI drafted a product description that I then edited for my voice. The draft was about 70% right; my edited version was significantly better than what I would have written from scratch.
If you're new to writing sales copy, this feature alone is genuinely valuable.
What MadeThis Does Well
The AI co-founder feature. The description assistant is practical and actually useful, not just a novelty. I've used it for four products now and each time it produced a usable starting point. The business strategy suggestions are less reliable (it's broad-strokes advice), but the copy assistance is legitimately good.
Speed to launch. I've set up products on other platforms. MadeThis is the fastest. The UI is designed to get you from idea to published product page in under an hour.
Clean checkout experience. The checkout flow your customers see is smooth. First impressions matter when someone is deciding whether to pay for something, and MadeThis's checkout doesn't look scammy or overly complicated.
Automatic file delivery. This is table stakes — every platform does it — but MadeThis handles it reliably. Customers get their file immediately after purchase. The occasional customer question I've received has been "where's my file?" and I've never had a delivery actually fail.
Analytics. The dashboard shows you what's selling, where traffic is coming from, and your revenue over time. Not as sophisticated as something like Google Analytics, but useful and easy to read.
What MadeThis Is Still Working On
Marketplace discovery. Gumroad has a large built-in audience that can discover your products through their marketplace. MadeThis's internal discovery is more limited. If you're counting on the platform itself to drive traffic, you may be disappointed. You'll need to build your own traffic (SEO, Pinterest, Reddit, email).
Third-party integrations. If you want deep integration with external email marketing platforms or complex automation, the native options are somewhat limited. Most beginning sellers won't hit this wall for a while, but it's worth knowing.
Template library. I'd love to see more ready-made product page templates or more visual customization options for the store itself. This has improved since I started using it, but there's still room to grow.
Pricing
MadeThis has a free tier to get started — you can launch your first product without paying anything. Transaction fees apply. Paid plans exist that reduce fees and unlock additional features.
I'd recommend starting on the free plan to validate your product before upgrading. Once you're generating consistent revenue, the math on a paid plan usually works out in your favor.

Who MadeThis Is Best For
Based on my experience, here's who gets the most value from MadeThis:
Complete beginners. The AI assistance, the fast setup, and the guided experience are most valuable for people who've never sold anything online before. The platform reduces friction at every stage.
Solo operators selling digital products. Templates, guides, ebooks, short courses, prompt packs, planners — MadeThis handles all of these well.
People who want an all-in-one solution. If you don't want to stitch together five different tools, MadeThis handles store, checkout, delivery, and basic analytics in one place.
People prioritizing speed. If your goal is to get something live and start testing, MadeThis is the fastest path I've found.
Who Might Look Elsewhere
If you have a large existing audience and want the platform's built-in marketplace traffic, Gumroad's established user base might be more valuable to you.
If you're primarily focused on minimizing transaction fees and have low volume, Payhip's free plan might edge out MadeThis.
If you need deep customization or enterprise-level features, you'd eventually outgrow any of these basic platforms.
My Recommendation
For a beginner starting a digital product business in 2026, I recommend MadeThis.
The AI features remove the biggest friction point I see beginners struggle with: knowing how to talk about their products in a way that makes someone want to buy. The setup is fast. The platform is reliable. And it's free to start.
I'm still using it over a year in, and I have no plans to switch.
