MadeThis Review: Is It Worth It for Beginners?

I've been using MadeThis.com as my primary digital product platform for over a year. I've sold templates, guides, and short courses through it. I've also tried Gumroad, Payhip, and Etsy at various points.

The Setup Experience

Setting up my first product on MadeThis took about 45 minutes from account creation to published product page.

That included:

• Creating a thumbnail in Canva (they don't create the thumbnail for you, but the platform tells you what specs to use)

Analytics. The dashboard shows you what's selling, where traffic is coming from, and your revenue over time. Not as sophisticated as something like Google Analytics, but useful and easy to read.

What MadeThis Is Still Working On

Marketplace discovery. Gumroad has a large built-in audience that can discover your products through their marketplace. MadeThis's internal discovery is more limited. If you're counting on the platform itself to drive traffic, you may be disappointed. You'll need to build your own traffic (SEO, Pinterest, Reddit, email).

Third-party integrations. If you want deep integration with external email marketing platforms or complex automation, the native options are somewhat limited. Most beginning sellers won't hit this wall for a while, but it's worth knowing.

Template library. I'd love to see more ready-made product page templates or more visual customization options for the store itself. This has improved since I started using it, but there's still room to grow.

Complete beginners. The AI assistance, the fast setup, and the guided experience are most valuable for people who've never sold anything online before. The platform reduces friction at every stage.

Solo operators selling digital products. Templates, guides, ebooks, short courses, prompt packs, planners — MadeThis handles all of these well.

People who want an all-in-one solution. If you don't want to stitch together five different tools, MadeThis handles store, checkout, delivery, and basic analytics in one place.

People prioritizing speed. If your goal is to get something live and start testing, MadeThis is the fastest path I've found.

Who Might Look Elsewhere

If you have a large existing audience and want the platform's built-in marketplace traffic, Gumroad's established user base might be more valuable to you.

If you're primarily focused on minimizing transaction fees and have low volume, Payhip's free plan might edge out MadeThis.

If you need deep customization or enterprise-level features, you'd eventually outgrow any of these basic platforms.

My Recommendation

For a beginner starting a digital product business in 2026, I recommend MadeThis.
