Is MadeThis Worth It? An Honest 2028 Review

By Dan·February 2, 2028·8 min read

Affiliate Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. If you sign up for MadeThis through my link, I earn a commission at no extra cost to you. I only recommend products I personally use and believe in.

I want to give you the most honest review of MadeThis I can write, which means I'm going to tell you the things that weren't perfect alongside the things that made it the right choice for me.

I've been using MadeThis to sell digital products for a while now. It's not the only platform I've tried — I've tested Gumroad, Teachable, Podia, and Kajabi at various points. So I have real context for where MadeThis sits in the market.

Here's what I actually think.

What MadeThis Is

MadeThis is a digital product selling platform. You create an account, upload your products (ebooks, templates, courses, audio files, PDFs — anything digital), set a price, and share your store link. Customers find your page, pay, and receive instant access to what they bought.

It handles the payment processing, file delivery, and customer records. You don't need a website, a checkout plugin, or Stripe integration to get started. It works out of the box.

What I Like About MadeThis

The setup is genuinely fast. My first product was live in about 45 minutes. I've helped other people get their first stores set up in a single afternoon. There's no complicated onboarding wizard, no "build your funnel" prompts before you've sold anything.

The product pages look professional. The default styling is clean enough that you don't need design skills to have a store that converts. I've made sales from pages I barely customized.

Transaction fees are reasonable at scale. On paid plans, the percentage cuts are competitive with the market. This matters a lot once you're doing consistent volume — even a 2% difference on $5K/month is $100 back in your pocket.

Affiliate support is real. You can let other people promote your products and pay them a commission automatically. This was a huge unlock for me — I didn't have to manage spreadsheets or process payouts manually.

Customer management is centralized. All my buyers, purchases, and download history in one place. Simple but functional.

What I Don't Love

No built-in email marketing. MadeThis doesn't have a native email tool the way Kajabi does. You need to connect a third-party email platform (I use ConvertKit) for post-purchase sequences and broadcasts. That's an extra integration and an extra cost.

Limited customization on store pages. The product pages look clean, but if you want heavy branding customization or complex page layouts, you'll hit limits. It's not a full website builder.

Community features aren't built in. If you want a forum or discussion board attached to your courses, you'll need to look elsewhere. Kajabi and Podia have community features; MadeThis doesn't.

Who MadeThis Is For

MadeThis is the right platform if:

  • You're selling digital products and want to get set up fast
  • You don't want to pay $70–$200/month for features you won't use yet
  • You want a clean, professional storefront without needing a developer
  • You're okay connecting your own email tool (which you probably should anyway)
  • You want lower fees than Gumroad as you scale

MadeThis is probably not the right fit if:

  • You need everything — email, community, courses, website — in one integrated platform
  • You're building a complex course with certifications, quizzes, and drip content
  • You need heavy custom branding on your product pages

Pricing Honesty

The free plan is genuinely functional for starting out. You can publish products and make sales without paying a cent until you're ready to upgrade. That's the right model for a creator-friendly platform.

The paid plans are priced fairly relative to what you get. I've seen the MadeThis pricing page evolve over time, and they've maintained a reasonable value proposition without the kind of aggressive upselling I've experienced elsewhere.

My Verdict

MadeThis is the tool I recommend most often to people starting a digital product business. Not because I don't know about the alternatives — I do — but because it gets out of your way and lets you focus on what actually makes money: building good products and getting traffic to your store.

You can read more about the platform comparisons in the MadeThis alternatives roundup if you want to see how it stacks up head-to-head across the market.

For most people reading this, MadeThis is enough. Start there. Upgrade your tools when your business has grown to the point where you need more.

If I were starting over tomorrow with my current knowledge, I'd still use MadeThis.
