How to Create a Notion Template and Sell It Online
Notion templates are one of the best entry points into digital products. Low barrier, fast to create, and there's real demand from people who want productivity systems they don't have to build from scratch.
I've sold Notion templates for over a year. Here's exactly how to create one and get it listed and selling.
Step 1: Pick a Template That Solves a Real Problem

The failure mode for Notion templates is building something you find interesting instead of something buyers are searching for.
The templates that sell best are the ones that help people:
- Manage a specific type of project (freelance client tracker, content calendar, product launch planner)
- Track something they care about (habit tracker, budget tracker, reading list)
- Run a business system they don't want to build (CRM, editorial calendar, invoice tracker)
My best-selling Notion template is a freelance client CRM. Not complicated — but it solves a real problem freelancers have. They need to track leads, active clients, deadlines, and invoices. I built the system in Notion and sold it.
To find your template idea:
- Browse Etsy's Notion template section and see what's selling
- Search Reddit threads like r/Notion and r/freelance for what people are struggling to set up
- Think about what system you personally use in Notion that took you time to build
Step 2: Build It in Notion
Open Notion and start building. Here's how I structure every template I create:
Start from the buyer's perspective. What does someone need to see first? Make it intuitive. The first page they open should be a "Start Here" page with a brief explanation of how the system works.
Use real data as examples. Don't leave the template blank — fill it with example entries so buyers can immediately see how it's supposed to work. An empty template is confusing. An example-populated template is immediately useful.
Build for non-Notion-experts. Your buyer might be relatively new to Notion. Avoid complex formulas and linked databases if you can. The simpler the setup, the wider the audience.
Test it. Open the template as if you're a new user. Are the instructions clear? Are the databases linked correctly? Does it actually work?
Step 3: Set Up the Notion Share Link
When your template is ready, click "Share" → enable "Share to web" → turn on "Allow duplicate as template."
This generates a public link. When someone uses this link, they get a "Duplicate" button at the top of the page that adds a personal copy of the template to their Notion workspace. This is the standard delivery mechanism for Notion templates.
That link is what you'll sell. The buyer purchases, you provide the link, and they duplicate into their own account.
Step 4: Create Your Product File
What you're actually selling is:
- The Notion template link
- Instructions for how to use the template (usually a PDF or a simple guide page)
I create a simple PDF that includes the template link, a quick start guide (1–2 pages), and a FAQ for common setup questions. That PDF is what customers download — it contains everything they need.
Step 5: Price It Correctly
Notion templates are typically priced at $7–$47. Here's how I think about it:
- Simple templates (a habit tracker, a reading list): $7–$15. Easy impulse buy.
- Business system templates (client CRM, project manager): $19–$37. Buyers understand the value.
- Comprehensive template bundles (multiple systems, full business OS): $47–$97. High perceived value.
Don't underprice. I launched my first template at $12. I raised it to $27 three months later and saw no drop in conversion. The higher price actually increased perceived value.
Step 6: List It on MadeThis
Creating the listing on MadeThis takes about 30 minutes:
- Create your account (quick)
- Add a new product, upload your PDF delivery file
- Use the AI description tool to draft your product description — then rewrite it in your own voice
- Add a cover image (make this in Canva — a simple branded mockup works great)
- Set your price and publish
The product page on MadeThis looks clean and professional without any extra design work. Customers get instant access to the PDF download after purchase, which contains the template link.
Step 7: Get Your First Sales
The quickest path to first sales:
Reddit: Post in r/Notion or r/productivity with a helpful tip related to your template. Mention in your profile or in the post that you've built a template for this exact workflow. Be genuine — not spammy.
Pinterest: Create a pin showing the template design. Use keywords in the pin title like "Notion freelance client tracker template." These pins have long shelf lives.
Blog SEO: Write a blog post like "How to build a freelance client CRM in Notion" and mention your template naturally in the post. This drives warm, high-intent traffic.

What to Expect
My first Notion template made $0 in week one. I was demoralized. Then I posted in a Notion community on Reddit with a helpful comment and mentioned the template at the end. I made 3 sales in 48 hours.
Notion templates are an iterative business. Your first one teaches you what people want. Your second is better. By the time you have 5–8 templates in the same niche, the income starts to compound — buyers often purchase multiple templates.
Start with one. Build it well. List it on MadeThis. Then make the next one.
