The model matters before anything else. Here's my hierarchy for beginners:

Digital products — Create once, sell indefinitely. High margins (~90%), zero logistics, instant delivery. This is the model I'd choose.

Services/freelancing — Trade time for money. Faster to first dollar, but doesn't scale without hiring. Useful for generating capital to invest in a product business.

Affiliate marketing — Earn commissions promoting others' products. Lower margin per sale, but no product creation required. SEO-heavy.

Courses — Highest average order value, but most effort to produce. More suited to month 6 than month 1.

My recommendation: start with a digital product. One focused PDF guide or template. It's the fastest path from zero to $1K/month without the time-for-money ceiling of services.

Step 2: Pick Your Niche and Product (Week 1–2)

Your niche is the intersection of:

  • What you know well (from experience, not research)
  • What people are actively searching for and paying to solve
  • Something specific enough to differentiate but broad enough to have a real market

The product should solve one specific problem for one specific person.

Not: "A guide to productivity" Yes: "A 4-week system for freelancers who miss deadlines to get their projects under control without 12-hour days"

Step 3: Build Your First Product (Week 2–3)

Don't overthink this. Your first product should take no more than 10–15 hours to create.

The math is achievable. Most blogs with consistent SEO content start hitting 1,000+ monthly visitors within 6 months. If 1–2% of visitors buy, that's 10–20 sales per month.

What Separates People Who Get There

Two things:

Consistency. Most people stop writing content after a slow first month. The people who succeed are the ones who kept publishing when nothing was ranking yet.
