The skeptical question: can you actually make money with MadeThis?

I'm going to answer this with real numbers and complete honesty — because I think you deserve a better answer than "yes, totally, it changed my life!"

The $500/Month Milestone

Digital Product Empire

$27

Get It

In the past 12 months, I've made $14,200 on MadeThis. That's across 9 products, ranging in price from $17 to $97.

Here's what that breakdown actually looks like:

  • My top-selling product (a $37 guide) has made $5,600
  • Two products have made less than $200 total
  • The rest fall somewhere in between

That's not a curated success story. That's the messy real picture: some products work, some don't, and total income is the sum of many different results.

Is $14,200 in a year typical for someone new to MadeThis? Probably not for year one. I was building on two years of prior content creation and an existing email list when I moved to MadeThis. Someone starting from absolute zero should expect smaller numbers in year one.

What's realistic for a first-year seller with consistent effort: $1,000-4,000.

What It Actually Takes

This is the part most "can you make money on X" articles skip, so I'm going to be explicit.

You need a product people actually want to buy.

Not just something you're interested in — something people are actively searching for solutions to. The best digital products solve a specific, painful problem for a specific type of person. Vague products for general audiences struggle.

You need traffic.

MadeThis doesn't have a built-in marketplace that magically sends buyers to your store. A few sales may come from platform discovery, but the overwhelming majority of your sales will come from traffic you build — SEO blog posts, social media, email list, communities, word of mouth.

Traffic is the non-negotiable. See /blog/how-to-start-online-business-with-ai for more on building it.

You need to stay consistent for longer than feels comfortable.

Most people who "failed" at MadeThis or any similar platform didn't fail because the platform is bad. They launched a product, saw slow early results, and stopped. The early phase of any content-driven business looks disappointing from the inside. Posts aren't ranking. Sales are sporadic.

The people who make real money kept going past month three, when things start to compound.

Where People Go Wrong

Mistake 1: One product, no traffic strategy, then giving up.

This is the most common failure pattern. One product + no consistent traffic = zero sales = "MadeThis doesn't work."

MadeThis isn't a distribution channel. It's an infrastructure layer. You still have to get people to your product pages.

Mistake 2: Pricing too low.

I see a lot of new sellers price their first product at $5 or $7 because they're afraid no one will pay more. At $7, you need 143 sales to make $1,000. At $37, you need 27 sales.

Don't underprice. If your product solves a real problem, people will pay for it. Check /madethis-pricing for context on how to think about pricing alongside platform costs.

Mistake 3: Bad product pages.

Your product page is your sales page. If it describes features (what's in the guide) instead of outcomes (what the buyer gets), conversion rates will be low.

Write for the buyer's problem. "You're about to navigate the most confusing part of X. This guide gives you the exact process I used to get through it without [specific frustration]." That converts. A table of contents doesn't.

The Platform's Role

MadeThis handles: checkout, payment processing, file delivery, product pages, order management, and basic analytics.

It does these things reliably and well. My buyers rarely contact me with delivery issues. Payments arrive on schedule. The checkout experience is clean enough that buyers trust it.

What MadeThis doesn't do: generate traffic for you, tell you what to sell, or do the marketing work.

That's not a criticism — no digital product platform does those things. The platform handles infrastructure. You handle strategy.

If you're looking for a detailed comparison of what MadeThis offers versus the alternatives, see /reviews/madethis.

My Actual Recommendation

Yes, you can make real money with MadeThis. The people who do share some common traits: they built their first product around something specific people want, they created consistent content to drive traffic, and they stayed in it long enough for compounding to kick in.

None of that is a secret. None of it is particularly hard. It just takes longer than most people are willing to wait.

The best decision you can make today is to start. Every week you don't have something live is a week of compounding you're not getting.
