I've been selling digital products for over a year now. I've tried ebooks, templates, guides, toolkits, mini-courses, and a few other formats. Some sold immediately. Some didn't sell at all. Here's what I've learned about which products are worth building in 2027 — ranked by market size, buyer intent, and my own experience.

What Makes a Digital Product Worth Building

Before the list: not all digital products are equal. The best ones share a few traits:

  • Solve a specific problem. "Productivity templates" is weak. "Daily planning templates for freelancers with ADHD" is strong.
  • Appeal to buyers, not browsers. Products about making money, saving money, saving time, or improving health sell better than products about abstract topics.
  • Have low creation cost and high perceived value. A $47 ebook that saves someone 20 hours of research is worth the price. A $47 collection of random tips isn't.

Keep these filters in mind as you read.

The 10 Best Digital Products to Sell in 2027

1. Templates (Notion, Canva, Google Sheets, Excel)

Templates are the highest-margin digital products I've seen. You build them once, sell them indefinitely, and buyers see immediate value because they can use them the same day they buy.

Best niches in 2027: business planning, personal finance, content calendars, social media scheduling, client management, invoice templates for freelancers.

2. AI Prompt Packs

The market for AI productivity tools is exploding. Curated prompt packs — "100 ChatGPT prompts for copywriters" or "50 Claude prompts for solopreneurs" — are fast to create and have strong buyer intent because the value is immediately clear.

Best niches: prompts for specific industries (real estate, marketing, finance, coaching) rather than generic packs.

3. Mini-Courses and Video Trainings

A 60–90 minute course on a specific skill beats a 10-hour course on a broad topic every time. Buyers want transformation, not volume.

Best niches: skills with clear outcomes — "how to land your first freelance client," "how to set up your Google Analytics 4," "how to build a Canva brand kit."

4. Ebooks and Guides

Classic, still works, still sells. The key in 2027: narrower topics with higher specificity. "How to Start a Business" is saturated. "How to Start a Side Business as a Physical Therapist" is not.

Best niches: career transitions, niche business-building, specific financial strategies, skill development in growing fields.

5. Stock Photography and Graphics

If you have design skills, this is a passive income machine. Custom illustrations, icon sets, Canva elements, stock photos in underserved niches — all sell well on multiple platforms simultaneously.

Especially strong niches in 2027: AI-generated art assets, diverse stock photography, industry-specific illustrations.

6. Spreadsheet Systems

Financial trackers, business dashboards, budgeting spreadsheets — buyers pay serious money for well-designed spreadsheet systems. A clean, automated budget tracker in Google Sheets can sell for $15–$37 with minimal marketing.

Best niches: personal finance, rental property tracking, freelancer income tracking, content creator analytics.

7. Legal and Business Templates

Contracts, proposal templates, onboarding documents, SOPs — these command higher price points ($27–$97+) because buyers understand the cost of not having them. If you have professional experience in law, HR, or business operations, this category is underserved.

8. Print-on-Demand Products (Designs)

You design, a service prints and ships on demand. No inventory, no fulfillment. Best for designers who want to sell physical products without the physical product complexity.

Works best on platforms with built-in traffic (Etsy, Redbubble) rather than your own store.

9. Masterclasses and Workshops (Digital Delivery)

A 2-hour recorded workshop on a specific topic can sell for $97–$197 and deliver more value than a free YouTube video on the same subject. The packaging and presentation matter enormously here.

Best topics: skills that take a full day to teach but can be captured in a focused session — copywriting, pitch decks, financial modeling.

10. Resource Libraries (Membership or One-Time)

Bundle 20–50 templates, guides, or tools into a library and charge a premium for access. Buyers love the "everything I need in one place" positioning.

Works best when you've already sold individual products and have a sense of what your audience keeps buying.

How to Actually Launch

Pick one. Build one version. Ship it.

That's the advice that sounds obvious and is almost universally ignored. Most people stall at the idea stage or try to build five products at once and finish none of them.

I built my first product in four days. It wasn't perfect. It sold. I improved it based on feedback.

For the store, I use MadeThis — it handles checkout, digital delivery, and product management with a free plan to start. It also has an AI co-founder that helps me write product descriptions that actually convert, which saved me a lot of time in those early days.

The 2027 digital product market is bigger than it's ever been. There are more buyers, more distribution channels, and more tools to create good products quickly. The window is open. The question is whether you're going to walk through it.

Pick a product. Build it this week.
