the fastest way to make your first $100 online with no audience
the fastest way to make your first $100 online with no audience
The most common question I get from people starting out is some version of: "I don't have an audience. How do I make money before I have followers?"
I asked the same question. And the answer I got — build an audience first, then sell — is honestly bad advice for someone who needs proof of concept before they can stay motivated.

Here's what I actually did to make my first $100 online, with no audience and no following.
Why $100 Matters More Than $1,000
I want to explain why I'm talking about $100 and not some bigger number.
Your first $100 online is a proof of concept, not a retirement plan. It answers the question: can I make money doing this? The psychological shift that happens when you see that someone, somewhere, chose to pay you money for something you made — that shift is irreplaceable.
It changes your entire orientation from "can this work?" to "how do I grow this?" Those are very different games.
Once I made my first $100, I made my next $100 faster. And the next $100 faster than that. The first milestone is the one that matters most, and it's also the one that feels the most out of reach.
It's not.
The Method: Find People, Not Traffic
The difference between having an audience and not having one is that audiences find you. When you have no audience, you have to find people.
That sounds obvious, but it changes the strategy completely.
Traffic-based strategies — SEO, blogging, Pinterest — take months to work. They're worth building, but they're not the path to your first $100 this week.
Finding-people strategies are faster:
Reddit. There are subreddits for nearly every niche and problem. r/SideHustle, r/personalfinance, r/Entrepreneur, r/solopreneur — and dozens of niche-specific communities. I spent time in these communities posting genuinely useful answers to real questions. When someone asked about a problem my product solved, I answered fully and mentioned my product briefly. Not as a pitch — as a resource.
Out of the first 20 thoughtful Reddit comments I wrote, I got 4 direct messages asking for more information, and 2 of those turned into sales.
Quora. Same approach. Answer questions about your topic with real value. Include a mention of your product when it's genuinely relevant. Quora answers also rank in Google, so this builds both short-term visibility and long-term SEO.
Facebook and LinkedIn groups. Same pattern. Find the groups where your potential buyers hang out. Participate genuinely. Don't pitch. Mention your product when it directly solves the problem being discussed.
Direct outreach. This is the most underrated approach. I identified 20 people who ran email newsletters or blogs in adjacent niches, sent them a personal email offering my product for free in exchange for honest feedback, and got 4 responses. Two of those people mentioned my product to their audiences. One of those mentions drove 8 sales.
The Product You Need
You don't need a complex product for your first $100. You need a simple, specific product that solves one clear problem.
The fastest product to create: a PDF guide, a template, or a checklist. Something that can be built in a weekend.
My first product was a simple 15-page PDF. I created the outline in an afternoon, wrote it over a Saturday, spent Sunday formatting it in Canva. On Monday it was live.
I priced it at $17. Six sales gets you to $102. Six sales is not a big number.
The Platform That Makes This Possible
One thing that would have slowed me down massively: spending days figuring out payment processing, digital delivery, and product pages.
I set up my first product on MadeThis in about an hour. Product page live, checkout working, files delivered automatically. That left me free to focus on the actual work — finding people and getting them to my product.
If you're agonizing over which platform to use, pick MadeThis, get your product live, and spend your energy on getting in front of people. The platform doesn't matter nearly as much as the product and the distribution.
The Timeline
Here's the realistic timeline if you follow this approach:
- Day 1: Choose your topic. Write a simple product outline.
- Days 2–3: Create the product using AI to accelerate.
- Day 4: Set up your store on MadeThis. Write a product description.
- Days 5–7: Spend 2–3 hours per day finding conversations in relevant communities. Answer questions. Mention your product when relevant.
- Days 8–14: Continue the community approach. Also do direct outreach to 10–15 relevant newsletters or blogs.
Most people who follow this sequence make their first sale within the first week. $100 is usually within two weeks.
The people who fail at this approach are the ones who create a product, list it, and then wait for people to find it. People don't magically appear. You have to go find them.
After Your First $100
Once you have your first $100 — and you will — shift your strategy.
Keep doing some community and outreach work, but start investing in content that builds long-term SEO traffic. One article per week. Build slowly. By month 6, that content will be generating traffic without your active involvement.
Your first $100 is proof the model works. Everything after that is execution and compounding.
