The Best Email Marketing Platforms for Digital Product Sellers in 2027

I've used four different email marketing platforms in three years of selling digital products. Switched twice, regretted one switch, and finally landed somewhere I'm actually happy.

Here's my honest breakdown of what's worth using in 2027 — and what I'd choose if I were starting over today.

Before I get into the platforms, let me be clear about what matters for digital product sellers specifically — because the needs are different from, say, a newsletter publisher or an e-commerce store with physical goods.

You need:

  • Clean opt-in forms you can embed anywhere
  • A reliable sequence builder for automated welcome + nurture emails
  • The ability to tag/segment subscribers based on what they bought or opted into
  • Integration with your product platform (so new buyers can be added to specific sequences automatically)
  • Deliverability that doesn't embarrass you

You don't need: a massive suite of landing page builders, CRM features, or enterprise reporting. Don't pay for complexity you'll never use.

ConvertKit (now Kit) — My Current Pick

I've been on Kit for about two years and it's the platform I'd recommend to most digital product sellers starting out. Here's why:

The tagging and automation system is genuinely excellent for small businesses. You can set up rules like "when someone buys Product A, add them to this sequence and remove this tag" in about 10 minutes. It's powerful without being confusing.

The free plan (up to 10,000 subscribers) is genuinely useful — not a crippled trial. You can build a real business on the free plan before upgrading.

Deliverability is consistently good. Your emails reach inboxes, which is the whole point.

Downsides: the broadcast email editor feels slightly dated, and the landing page builder is just okay compared to dedicated tools.

Beehiiv — Best for Newsletter-Forward Strategies

If you're building a newsletter as your primary channel (rather than using email as a backend sales tool), Beehiiv is worth serious consideration. It's built specifically for newsletter publishers and shows — the reading experience is clean, the growth tools are excellent, and the monetization features (paid subscriptions, ad network) are more developed than any other platform.

For pure digital product sellers who want to use email primarily as a sales channel rather than a publication, Beehiiv's strength (newsletter experience) is less relevant. But if your strategy is "build a valuable newsletter, then sell products to that audience," Beehiiv fits that model well.

MailerLite — Best for Beginners on a Budget

MailerLite is the platform I'd recommend to someone who's genuinely just getting started and wants to get a form live today without touching anything complicated. The interface is the cleanest of any email platform I've used, the free plan is generous, and it does everything a digital product seller needs in the early stages.

It lacks some of the automation sophistication of Kit, but honestly — for your first year, you won't need that sophistication. Simple welcome sequence, broadcast emails, basic tagging. MailerLite handles all of it without friction.

The one thing to watch: migration can be annoying later if you decide to switch. MailerLite is great for starting out, less ideal for complex automations as you scale.

Platforms I'd Skip

Mailchimp — once the default, now overpriced for what you get. The free plan limits have tightened, the interface has gotten cluttered, and better alternatives exist at every price point.

ActiveCampaign — powerful but overkill for most digital product sellers. You'll spend more time learning the platform than using it. The pricing is also meaningfully higher at scale.

Klaviyo — built for physical e-commerce, not digital products. Don't bother.

Integration with Your Product Platform

Whatever email platform you choose, verify it integrates cleanly with your product store before committing.

MadeThis integrates natively with major email platforms, so when someone buys a product, they can be automatically added to the right segment in your email system. That's the automation that makes the whole system work — your email platform shouldn't require manual CSV exports to stay current.

If you're just setting up your product store now, start with MadeThis and then pick an email platform that integrates with it. The integration question is often an afterthought and shouldn't be.

My Recommendation in One Sentence

If you're starting out: MailerLite. If you're serious about digital product sales and automation: Kit. If you're building a newsletter business: Beehiiv.

Don't let the platform choice become the thing that stops you from starting. Pick one, get your form live, and send your first email this week. The platform matters less than whether you're actually using it.
