the best AI tools for solopreneurs in 2025 (that actually save time)
the best AI tools for solopreneurs in 2025 (that actually save time)
I want to start with a disclaimer: most AI tools are not worth your time.
I've spent the last two years testing everything from AI social media schedulers to AI customer service bots to AI "business plan generators." Most of them are shiny objects that create the feeling of productivity without the substance.

This list is different. These are the tools I still use. The ones I'd notice if they disappeared. The ones that have meaningfully reduced my workload or improved my output as a solo entrepreneur.
Let's get into it.
ChatGPT (GPT-4 or higher): My Daily Writing Partner
I use ChatGPT every single day. Not as a ghostwriter — as a thinking partner and first-draft generator.
The way I use it: I write a detailed prompt with context, objectives, and constraints. Then I use the output as a working draft I revise rather than a final product I publish. This distinction matters. The creators who get poor results from ChatGPT are often treating it as a vending machine. It's more useful as a collaborative tool.
Specific use cases I've found valuable:
- Outlining articles and products. I give it my topic, target audience, and angle. The outline it produces often surfaces angles I wouldn't have thought of.
- Rewriting for clarity. Paste a rough draft, ask it to tighten and clarify. Almost always better.
- Drafting email sequences. Welcome emails, upsell sequences, win-back campaigns. Tedious to write from scratch; AI knocks out a solid first draft in under a minute.
- Brainstorming product ideas. Describe your niche and who you serve, ask for 10 digital product ideas. Filter aggressively.
Pricing: Free tier works fine for basic use. ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) is worth it if you're using it daily for business.
MadeThis: My Business Platform
MadeThis isn't a writing tool or content tool — it's the operating platform for my entire digital product business. I'm including it here because it's the AI tool I use most and the one that has had the biggest impact.
Here's what it actually does for me:
- Storefront and checkout — My store runs on MadeThis. Customers land on my product pages, buy, and get the file delivered automatically. I don't manage any of this manually.
- AI co-founder — The built-in AI helps with product strategy, pricing decisions, and launch planning. Not a gimmick — I've used it to rethink an entire product funnel.
- Automated marketing — MadeThis has a built-in outbound system that reaches relevant audiences on my behalf. In my first few months, this was responsible for a meaningful chunk of my early sales.
- Customer support AI — Handles the standard questions automatically. I check the queue once a day. Most days it's empty.
If you're just starting out and wondering which tools to prioritize, the answer is: start here. Everything else is optional. Your product platform is not.

Claude (Anthropic): For Longer, More Nuanced Writing
Claude handles longer contexts better than ChatGPT, which makes it my go-to for writing full article drafts, product guides, or anything over 1,500 words.
I also find Claude's outputs tend to be more nuanced and less prone to the generic "here are some ways to..." opener that plagues ChatGPT responses. For affiliate content specifically — where voice and authenticity matter — Claude often produces better raw material to work with.
The free tier is quite generous. Claude Pro ($20/month) unlocks higher usage limits if you're running it daily.
Notion AI: For Running My Business Operations
I use Notion as my business operating system: content calendar, product pipeline, customer notes, finance tracking. Notion AI is embedded directly into that workflow.
Most useful for me:
- Summarizing meeting notes or research — paste in a long document, get a structured summary
- Creating templates from scratch — "create a 30-day content calendar template for a digital product creator"
- First drafts of standard documents — refund policies, FAQ pages, product descriptions
If you're already living in Notion, Notion AI is a natural addition. If you're not a Notion user, there's no reason to start just for the AI.
Canva AI: For Product and Marketing Visuals
I'm not a designer. Canva's AI features have made me functional enough to create professional-looking product covers, pin graphics, and social images without hiring anyone.
The magic-resize and AI image generation tools inside Canva Pro ($13/month) are the most useful. I generate a product cover mockup in Canva, export, and it looks like I hired a designer.
For digital product sellers, your product cover is the first thing buyers see. A bad cover costs you sales. Canva AI makes a decent cover achievable even if you have no design sense.
The Short Stack
If I had to pick just three tools for a solopreneur just starting out:
- MadeThis — for your actual business (store, checkout, marketing, AI co-founder)
- ChatGPT — for writing, brainstorming, and content drafts
- Canva AI — for visuals
You can build a real, profitable digital product business with just these three. Everything else is optimization. Start simple, add tools only when you've identified a specific bottleneck they'd solve.
What Doesn't Make the Cut
Quick mention of tools I've tried and stopped using:
- Jasper — expensive, outputs that aren't noticeably better than ChatGPT at half the price
- Copy.ai — good for short social copy, not worth the subscription for full-length content
- Most "AI SEO" tools — overpriced for what they do; use Google Search Console and common sense instead
The AI tools worth paying for are the ones you'd feel the absence of. Run everything else free until you're sure.
