The Beginner's Guide to Affiliate Marketing With AI
I got into affiliate marketing the old way: pick a program, write some blog posts, wait for traffic.
It worked, eventually. But it was slow, the content was mediocre, and I was guessing at most of the strategy.
Then I started using AI in the workflow, and the output quality, the speed, and the strategic clarity all improved significantly. Here's what affiliate marketing with AI actually looks like in practice — for someone starting from scratch.

What Affiliate Marketing Actually Is
Affiliate marketing is simple in principle: you promote someone else's product and earn a commission when someone buys through your link.
What makes it work: you build an audience (usually through content — blog posts, videos, newsletters) that trusts your recommendations, and you recommend products you've actually used and believe in.
What makes it fail: promoting products you don't believe in, building an audience in a market with no purchasing intent, or expecting results before you've earned trust.
The AI tools don't change these fundamentals. They help you execute faster and better.
How I Use AI to Find Affiliate Opportunities
Before AI, finding affiliate programs required visiting dozens of company websites, checking commission rates manually, and maintaining a spreadsheet by hand.
Now I use AI to help me research:
- Which products in my niche have affiliate programs (I give the AI a list of tools I use and ask it to check if they have programs)
- What commission structures look like across competitors
- Which keywords my target audience uses when researching these products
The AI doesn't do this research autonomously — I direct it, review its output, and make the actual decisions. But it cuts the research phase from days to hours.
The Content System
Affiliate marketing runs on content. The three types that drive conversions for me:
1. Comparison posts. "X vs. Y: Which is better for [specific use case]?" These capture buyers who are already in decision mode and need one more perspective. High purchase intent, moderate competition.
2. Review posts. Long-form, honest reviews of products I actually use. I include the downsides, the limitations, and who it's not right for. This credibility is what converts readers into buyers.
3. Best-of roundups. "Best [product type] for [specific audience]." These rank for discovery-stage searches and funnel into the comparison and review posts.
For each of these, I use AI to help with:
- Research and fact-finding
- Outline structure
- Draft writing (which I edit heavily for my own voice)
- SEO heading optimization
The AI produces a foundation; I add the first-person experience and specific details that make the content trustworthy.
The One Platform I Recommend for This Site Type
If you're building an affiliate content site, you need a clean, fast-loading site that doesn't distract from the content. That's it. No e-commerce complexity, no payment systems, just a content site with good SEO fundamentals.
But here's something that took me a while to realize: affiliate marketing alone has a ceiling. The sites that generate serious income typically combine affiliate revenue with owned digital products. The affiliate content builds the audience; the digital products monetize it more profitably.
That's why I also sell my own products alongside my affiliate links — using MadeThis as the product platform. The affiliate commissions and the product sales compound each other.
See /reviews/madethis for how this works in practice.
The AI Workflow in Practice
Here's what a typical content creation session looks like:
- Keyword research — I find a target keyword (I do this myself; AI helps me evaluate intent)
- Brief creation — I paste the keyword and top 3 SERP results into Claude and ask it to identify what all three posts cover, and what they miss
- Outline — AI suggests a structure based on the brief; I refine it to match what I know from experience
- Draft — AI writes a draft; I rewrite any section that sounds generic or lacks specific examples
- First-person layer — I go through the draft and insert specific personal experiences, exact numbers, and genuine opinions
- Optimization — final check for headers, meta description, internal links
A 1,000-word post that would have taken me 4 hours now takes 90 minutes. The quality is higher because the AI forces me to be more structured.
Building Real Trust (What AI Can't Do For You)
AI can write content. It cannot earn trust for you.
Trust comes from:
- Specific, honest opinions including the negatives
- Evidence that you actually use the products you recommend
- Consistency over time — showing up with useful content for months
I promote MadeThis as an affiliate because I actually use it and genuinely believe it's the best platform for digital product sellers. If I didn't believe that, no amount of AI-generated content would make the recommendation convert.
The best affiliate marketing is honest endorsement with good content distribution. AI is the distribution engine. Your credibility is the asset.
