I get this question a lot: "If you had to start from zero tomorrow — no savings, no audience, no brand — what would you do?"

I've thought about this more than I probably should have, because I think it's one of the most useful thought experiments for anyone starting out. And I have a clear answer.

The Model: SEO-Driven Digital Products

The business: create digital products in a specific niche, drive traffic through search-engine-optimized content, build an email list, and sell to that list repeatedly.

That's it. No ads. No cold outreach. No social media strategy (optional later, but not required). No code, no tech complexity.

The reason I keep coming back to this model is that all three components compound over time:

  • SEO content grows in value as it ages and accumulates links
  • The email list grows with every new reader and never goes away
  • Digital products can be expanded into a catalog over time

And all three of these require almost nothing to start: time, a domain, and hosting.


Month 1: Choose Your Niche and Validate

The biggest mistake beginners make is picking a niche based on passion rather than demand. I love talking about niche selection — but the shortcut is simple: go where there's already demonstrated demand.

How to validate with $0:

  • Search your niche topic on Reddit and count threads. More threads = more demand.
  • Look at what's selling on Gumroad, Etsy, and Amazon in your niche.
  • Find competitors — not as a reason to avoid the space, but as proof that people are paying.

A validated niche has:

  • People asking questions about it online
  • Existing products selling (even if they're mediocre)
  • A clear problem that can be solved with information or tools

The niche doesn't have to be AI or business. It can be fitness, photography, personal finance, cooking, career development, productivity — anything with a specific audience and a specific problem.


Month 1–2: Create Your First Product

With $0 and AI tools available, there's no excuse for slow production. You can create a valuable digital product in a week.

What I'd make first: a guide or toolkit that solves a specific, high-value problem in the niche. Not a 300-page course. A focused, actionable resource that delivers clear value.

Formats that sell well with minimal production time:

  • Ebooks and guides (20–50 pages, $19–$49)
  • Templates (spreadsheets, Notion docs, Canva templates)
  • Swipe files and checklist bundles
  • Mini-courses (video or text, 3–5 lessons)

AI helps enormously with the research and drafting phase. The value-add is your expertise, your framing, and your curation — not AI writing everything for you.


Month 2: Set Up the Business Infrastructure

This is the part people overcomplicate.

You need: a place to host the product, a way to collect payments, and a way to capture email addresses. That's the entire infrastructure required.

The honest caveat: this model requires patience. You're not making $10K your first month. You might make $0 your first month. But you're building something real that compounds — not chasing a trend that fades.
