MadeThis Review After 3 Months: What's Good, What's Not, and Who It's For

I started using MadeThis.com in earnest about three months ago. Before that, I'd tested it briefly alongside a few other platforms but hadn't committed to it as my primary store.

Now I'm using it exclusively. Here's my honest review — the good, the frustrating, and a clear answer on who this platform is actually built for.

What MadeThis Actually Is

MadeThis is a digital product platform with an AI co-founder layer built in. You can think of it as "Gumroad + an AI business partner" — it handles your storefront, product listings, checkout, file delivery, and email automation, and the AI component helps you with product strategy, positioning, and marketing decisions.

The AI co-founder is what makes it different from every other digital product platform I've used. It's not a chatbot bolted onto a storefront — it's woven into the workflow. When I add a new product, it surfaces questions about my target customer, helps me write the product description, and suggests pricing based on what's already working in that niche.

What I Actually Like

The setup speed. I had a live store with a working checkout in under 45 minutes on my first session. That includes uploading my first product, writing the description (with help from the AI), and setting up file delivery. For someone who'd spent weeks procrastinating on other platforms because of friction, this was significant.

The AI co-founder. This is the main reason I chose MadeThis over alternatives. Having an AI that understands my business context — what products I have, what my niche is, what I'm trying to grow — and can give relevant strategic advice is genuinely different from using ChatGPT in a separate window. The advice quality has improved the more context I've given it.

Product descriptions that actually convert. I have never been a copywriter. The AI-assisted product description workflow is one of the highest-value things in the platform for me. I describe what the product does, who it's for, and what problem it solves, and the AI drafts a description in a voice that's close enough to mine to edit down in about 15 minutes. My conversion rate improved after switching to AI-assisted descriptions.

The pricing. Free to start, no credit card required. The free plan is genuinely functional — not a crippled demo. You can list products, take real payments, and run a real business on the free plan. I upgraded to the paid tier after hitting the plan limits, at which point I was making enough to easily justify it.

What I Don't Like (The Honest Part)

Analytics depth. The analytics dashboard shows you the basics — sales, revenue, traffic sources — but doesn't go as deep as I'd want. I can't easily see conversion rates by traffic source, or which specific marketing channels are driving the highest-value customers. I supplement with Google Analytics 4, which solves the problem, but it would be nice to have this natively.

Email customization. The automated email flows (purchase confirmation, follow-up sequences) are functional but limited in terms of design customization. If you care deeply about polished branded emails, you'll want to integrate an external email tool. For my purposes, functional works, but it's worth knowing.

Discovery isn't part of the model. MadeThis doesn't drive organic traffic to your products the way Etsy or a marketplace would. You're responsible for getting people to your store. If you're looking for a platform that brings customers to you, this isn't it. If you're building your own traffic (which is what I'm doing through this blog), then it's not a problem — you're linking to your own store and controlling the funnel.

Pricing Breakdown

At the time of writing:

  • Free plan: Available, functional, limited by transaction volume and number of products
  • Paid plans: Scale based on revenue and features needed

I'm not going to post specific numbers here because pricing can change — check the MadeThis pricing page directly. What I'll say is that the paid tier cost was trivially small relative to what I was making when I hit the free plan limits. The transition felt natural rather than forced.

Who It's For

Digital product creators who want to build, not manage infrastructure. If your goal is to focus on creating products and driving traffic, and you want everything else handled — this is designed for you.

People who want AI integrated into their business workflow, not bolted on. If you're already using AI tools across multiple apps and want to consolidate, MadeThis brings strategy and execution together.

Beginners who need structure. The AI co-founder provides the kind of guidance that first-time founders are usually missing. Instead of guessing, you're working through decisions with something that's been trained on what actually works.

Who It's NOT For

People who want marketplace traffic. If you're not willing to build your own traffic source and want customers to find you through the platform, you'll be disappointed.

Advanced developers who want full control. If you want to custom-code your checkout flow or integrate a dozen external APIs, this will feel constrained. It's not built for that.

People building primarily physical product businesses. This platform is optimized for digital goods — ebooks, templates, courses, software. Physical product fulfillment is not the use case.

My Verdict After 3 Months

I'd recommend MadeThis to anyone building a digital product business who wants to move fast and have AI as a real part of their workflow — not a gimmick feature.

The platform delivers on its core promise: your store works, your products sell, your delivery is automated, and you have strategic support built in. The analytics gaps are real but workable.

If you want to try it before committing, start on the free plan and ship your first product. See how the checkout converts. See how the AI co-founder helps you position it. Make the decision from experience rather than speculation.

That's my honest take. MadeThis is where I'd start if I were building a digital product business today — the free plan is genuinely free and there's no reason not to test it →
