I've been building my online business on MadeThis for over six months now. I've gone from zero to a business generating real monthly revenue, and I have a genuinely mixed set of thoughts about the platform.

Not mixed as in "it's bad." Mixed as in: some things about it are exceptional, a few things are still works-in-progress, and whether it's the right call for you depends on what you're building.

Here's my honest take.

What MadeThis Is, For Context

MadeThis is an AI-powered platform for building and running an online business. It's primarily designed for people selling digital products — ebooks, templates, courses, guides — though it handles services and other digital offers too.

The headline feature is the "AI co-founder" (called DAN), which helps with business strategy, product copy, customer support, and content. On top of that, you get a storefront, checkout, digital delivery, and an SEO blog engine built in.

The free plan is genuinely free — not "free for 14 days" or "free with limited features that make it useless." You can run a real business on the free plan while your revenue is building.

What I Actually Use

The storefront and checkout: These are the core of the platform and they work well. Clean product pages, reliable checkout flow, automatic digital delivery. I don't think about this layer of my business at all — it just runs.

The AI co-founder: I use DAN primarily for product descriptions and positioning. When I'm launching a new product, I put my rough description in and DAN comes back with something more compelling — better headline, clearer benefits, stronger CTA. I edit it, but it saves me 30–60 minutes of staring at a blank page per product.

The SEO blog: This is what I credit most of my organic traffic to. The blog is fast, clean, and actually indexes well on Google. Writing and publishing consistently is what built my traffic — the platform just made the publishing part frictionless.

What I've Found Limited

Native email marketing: MadeThis doesn't have a full email marketing tool built in. I handle email through a third-party integration. It works, but I'd prefer fewer moving parts. This seems to be something they're developing, but it's not there yet.

Analytics depth: The analytics are good for basic revenue and traffic tracking, but I sometimes want more granular data — specifically, conversion rates at different steps in the funnel. I pull some data from Google Analytics for this instead.

Marketplace discovery: If you're counting on the platform to bring you buyers, MadeThis isn't built for that. You drive your own traffic. For me, that's fine — my SEO content does that job. But if you're coming from a platform like Gumroad that has a discovery marketplace, you'll feel that difference.

The Numbers After 6 Months

I'm not going to give exact figures because they're specific to my niche and products, but I can say:

  • Month 1: Basically nothing. I was still figuring out what sold.
  • Month 3: I crossed $500/month for the first time.
  • Month 6: I'm consistently above $2,000/month net.

The platform handles the infrastructure. The growth came from publishing content, improving my products based on feedback, and building an email list. MadeThis didn't do that work for me — but it also never got in the way.

Who MadeThis Is Right For

You: if you're building a digital product business from scratch, want a free starting plan, and value AI assistance with the content and strategy side of the business.

You: if you're serious about SEO as a growth channel and want a blog that's already integrated with your store.

You: if you want one platform that handles storefront, checkout, and content without stitching together five different tools.

Not you: if you're primarily building a marketplace business and expecting the platform to bring you buyers. Or if you're building a complex multi-module course and need purpose-built course delivery features like quizzes and certificates — something like Teachable might be a better fit for that specific use case.

My Bottom Line

Is MadeThis worth it? Yes — specifically for the solo creator building a digital product business who doesn't have a team and needs the platform to do more of the work.

The AI co-founder is genuinely different from anything else in this category. The free plan is genuinely usable. The checkout and delivery infrastructure just works.

If that sounds like you, start for free, build your first product, and see whether it fits. You'll know within a month.
