ChatGPT has been mainstream for a few years now. The "revolutionary new AI" phase is over. Most of the easy, obvious opportunities got crowded quickly.
So what's actually working in 2028? Let me give you the honest picture.
What's Played Out
Power Up Your Business
Get an AI co-founder that works 24/7 — builds, markets, and grows alongside you.
Let me clear the dead ends first so you don't waste time.
"Sell generic ChatGPT prompts" — Early 2023–2024, you could sell a $17 PDF of 100 ChatGPT prompts and people would buy it. That market is saturated. Generic prompt packs don't sell anymore. (Specific, niche prompt systems still do — more on this below.)
"Use ChatGPT to write articles for your content site" — Pure AI-generated content without original research, experience, or voice doesn't rank well and doesn't convert. Google got better at detecting it. Readers got better at detecting it. Pure content farms are struggling.
"Offer AI writing services where you're just copy-pasting ChatGPT outputs" — Clients have caught on. If you're selling AI writing as a service, you need to add serious value beyond prompting.
What's Actually Working in 2028
1. Niche-Specific Prompt Systems (Not Generic Packs)
The generic prompt pack is dead. The niche prompt system is alive.
There's a difference: a niche prompt system is a structured set of prompts designed to accomplish a specific, defined outcome for a specific person.
Example: "The Real Estate Agent's ChatGPT Playbook" — a system of prompts for writing property descriptions, follow-up emails, social media posts, and market update newsletters. Priced at $37–$67.
The buyer isn't paying for access to ChatGPT — they're paying for the saved time of figuring out how to use it effectively in their specific context. That's real value.
I've seen strong sellers in: legal (contract drafting prompts), coaching (client intake and session prep prompts), and marketing (campaign brief and ad copy prompts).
2. AI-Assisted Products Sold Under Your Brand
The biggest ChatGPT opportunity in 2028 isn't selling AI itself — it's using AI to create better products faster.
AI cuts product creation time dramatically. A 30-page ebook that used to take a week now takes a weekend if you know how to use AI for research, outlining, drafting, and editing. A course that took a month to script now takes a few days.
The product you're selling isn't "made by AI" — it's your expertise, expressed through content you created faster with AI assistance. Buyers don't care how you wrote it. They care whether it solves their problem.
I use AI in virtually every product I make. The output is better and faster than if I wrote everything from scratch. But the product is still mine — the research, the framing, the specific recommendations all come from real experience.
3. Done-For-You AI Services for Businesses
Businesses want to use AI but don't know how. You can bridge that gap.
Practical services that are working right now:
- "I'll set up a ChatGPT workflow for your customer support team" — $500–$2,000 per client
- "I'll create a content system using AI for your business" — recurring monthly retainer
- "I'll build a custom GPT for your specific use case" — $500–$3,000 depending on complexity
This is active income, but it's premium. A business that saves 10 hours a week with an AI workflow will happily pay $1,000 upfront for it.
4. AI Business Education (Courses and Guides)
There's still strong demand for education on how to actually use AI tools in specific business contexts.
Not "what is ChatGPT" — that information is everywhere for free. The demand is for "how do I use ChatGPT effectively for [my specific job/business/goal]."
A mini-course on "Using AI Tools to Build a One-Person Digital Product Business" — which is basically what I've been doing — is still in demand in 2028 because people want to see real implementation, not theoretical possibilities.
Price range for AI courses: $47–$197. The more specific and outcome-focused, the higher you can price.
How to Sell AI Products
MadeThis is well-positioned for AI products specifically because it handles every product format:
- Prompt packs as PDF downloads
- Mini-courses with video modules
- Consulting packages
- Digital guides and ebooks
The AI co-founder feature inside MadeThis is also genuinely useful for creating your sales page copy — it saves time on the part most creators hate.
For more on the broader category, my post on selling AI prompt packs covers the mechanics in more detail.
My Honest Take
The "I'm going to get rich just by using ChatGPT" narrative is over. What works in 2028 is combining AI tools with real expertise to create better products and services, faster.
If you have domain knowledge — in any field — AI lets you productize it more efficiently than ever before. That's the real opportunity.
The platform doesn't matter as much as the product. But MadeThis makes it easy to get a product live quickly, which means you can test and iterate without burning weeks on setup.
