The Best AI Tools for Online Business Owners in 2027

The AI tools landscape in 2027 is overwhelming. There are thousands of them. Every week a new one gets launched with a hot take on LinkedIn and a waitlist.

Most of them don't matter.

I've tested a lot of them over the past two years, and I want to give you the honest version: here are the AI tools that have actually changed how I run my online business, and why. I'm leaving out the ones that sound good in demos but don't survive contact with real daily use.

The Framework: What Makes an AI Tool Worth Keeping

Before the list, here's the filter I use: does this tool save me meaningful time on a task I do regularly? If yes, it stays. If it's a novelty that I used twice and forgot, it goes.

The tools on this list all pass that test.

ChatGPT Plus / Claude Pro — The Writing Engine

I'll group these together because I use both, and together they've replaced what used to be my biggest bottleneck: creating content.

ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) is where I draft. Blog posts, product descriptions, sales pages, email sequences, social captions — I give it a detailed brief and it outputs a working first draft that I edit down. The quality isn't final-publication ready, but it's 70% of the way there, which means my actual writing time drops by 60–70%.

Claude Pro ($20/month) is where I edit. I feed it a rough draft and ask it to tighten, restructure, or punch up specific sections. The outputs tend to be cleaner and more human-sounding than raw GPT, especially for long-form pieces.

Used together, my content output has tripled without tripling my hours.

MadeThis — The AI-Powered Business Platform

This one belongs on the list because it's not just a platform — it has AI tools built directly into the workflow. When I'm setting up a new product on MadeThis, I can get help writing the product description, the sales page copy, and the email follow-up sequence from inside the same dashboard where I'm building the product.

That integration matters more than it sounds. The alternative is bouncing between a separate AI tool, your text editor, and your platform while trying to keep context consistent. With MadeThis, the AI knows what I'm selling because it's right there.

For any creator selling digital products, MadeThis is the AI-native platform that removes friction from launch to sale. I've written more about how I use it day-to-day if you want the full picture.

Perplexity — AI-Powered Research

Google is still useful. But for research that requires synthesizing multiple sources quickly, Perplexity has replaced it for me almost entirely.

I use it to research competitors, find statistics for blog posts, understand what questions my audience is actually asking, and quickly audit market trends. It cites sources (which you should always verify), gives concise summaries, and follows up questions conversationally.

The Pro plan ($20/month) unlocks better models and more searches. Worth it if you're doing research-intensive content creation.

ElevenLabs — Audio Content at Scale

I didn't expect to use this as much as I do. ElevenLabs lets me turn written content into high-quality audio narration using a voice that sounds like me (or like any of dozens of presets).

I've used it to:

  • Create audio versions of blog posts
  • Produce narration for video content
  • Build audio bonuses that add value to digital products

If your audience skews toward podcast listeners or you want to repurpose your content into audio, ElevenLabs is the fastest way to do it without buying expensive recording gear or hiring a narrator.

Midjourney — Visual Content

For product thumbnails, blog header images, and social media visuals, Midjourney is the tool I reach for. The image quality in 2027 is genuinely impressive — with a good prompt, you can produce cover art and marketing images that look professionally designed.

I use it primarily for digital product covers and course thumbnails. A good visual increases perceived value of a product more than most people realize, and Midjourney makes it fast and cheap.

Zapier + AI Actions — Automation

Not purely an AI tool, but Zapier's AI Actions layer has made it dramatically more powerful. I use it to automate workflows between my email platform, MadeThis, and my CRM — things like tagging new buyers, triggering follow-up sequences, and flagging high-value customers for personal outreach.

The AI component lets me write the automation logic in plain language instead of configuring triggers and actions manually. That dropped my setup time for new automations by about 80%.

What I've Cut

Here are tools I tested and removed:

  • Jasper AI — Redundant with ChatGPT Plus/Claude Pro
  • Copy.ai — Same issue, and the output wasn't better
  • Most specialized "niche AI" tools — Usually just a GPT wrapper with a premium price

The reality is that three or four solid AI tools covers 90% of what an online business owner actually needs. Don't let the novelty of new tools distract you from doing the actual work.

The Stack That Moves the Needle

For most online business owners in 2027, this stack covers everything:

  1. ChatGPT Plus — content drafting
  2. Claude Pro — editing and refinement
  3. MadeThis — product hosting + AI business tools
  4. Perplexity — research
  5. Midjourney — visuals

That's under $80/month for a set of tools that functionally replaces what used to cost thousands per month in contractor and freelancer fees. The economics of running a solo online business have never been better.

Use the tools. Then get out of the tool-testing loop and put that time into the business itself.
