The Best AI Tools to Build a Digital Product Business
The Best AI Tools to Build a Digital Product Business
Building a digital product business used to require either significant technical skills or a budget to hire people who had them. AI tools have changed that equation dramatically.
I've been using AI at every stage of my digital product business for the past two years. Here's the honest breakdown of what I use, where it fits in the workflow, and what's actually worth paying for.

The Three Stages Where AI Actually Helps
Before the tool list, it helps to think about digital product businesses in three stages: creation, marketing, and delivery. AI tools solve very different problems at each stage.
Stage 1: Product Creation
ChatGPT / Claude — Ebook and Guide Writing
The most common AI use case in digital product creation is using AI to help write content-based products. I use Claude for long-form ebooks, guides, and workbooks because it handles extended writing without degrading in quality.
The process I use: I outline the product structure first, then use AI to draft each section, then edit everything back into my voice. The AI doesn't write the product — it accelerates the creation so I'm spending 6 hours instead of 20.
Canva — Visual Product Design
Canva isn't technically an AI tool (though it's adding AI features), but it's essential for the design layer of most digital products — worksheets, ebooks, planners, social media templates.
Canva's AI-assisted features now include Magic Design (generates layouts from a prompt), Magic Write (generates text in your design), and background remover. These features make the design work materially faster.
Midjourney / DALL-E — Product Visuals and Cover Art
If your digital product needs cover art, mockup images, or custom illustrations, AI image generators are now genuinely useful. I use Midjourney for cover images on ebooks and guides when I want something more original than stock photography.
The learning curve is real — getting consistently good results requires prompt refinement — but the output quality has improved dramatically.
Stage 2: Marketing
ChatGPT — Sales Pages and Email Copy
Sales page copy and email sequences are where I lean on ChatGPT heavily. I describe the product, the target buyer, the outcome, the key objections, and the price — and get a draft sales page in under five minutes.
The drafts need editing. They always do. But getting from blank page to first draft in five minutes instead of two hours is a meaningful time savings on one of the highest-leverage pieces of your business.
Jasper / Copy.ai — Short-Form Marketing Assets
For things like email subject lines, social media captions, ad headlines, and meta descriptions, I use Copy.ai. The short-form output is consistently solid and the volume it can generate in a session is useful for A/B testing.
Surfer SEO / Frase — Blog Content Optimization
If your digital product business uses a blog for organic traffic (mine does), AI-assisted SEO tools help you create content that actually ranks. Surfer SEO analyzes top-ranking content for a keyword and gives you structural and content recommendations to match.
I'm not endorsing Surfer specifically — there are several good options in this category — but the category itself is worth investing in if SEO is part of your traffic strategy.
Stage 3: Business Operations and Delivery
MadeThis — All-in-One Business Platform
For the actual business infrastructure — hosting products, managing checkout, delivering files, handling customer communication — I use MadeThis. It's built specifically for digital product creators and has AI assistance built into the platform for things like product descriptions and business strategy.
It handles the operational side so I can focus on creation and marketing. The AI co-founder feature is genuinely useful for working through product ideas and strategy.
Notion AI — Business Organization
I manage my content calendar, product roadmap, and operational notes in Notion. With Notion AI, I can draft content, summarize research, and auto-fill routine documents without leaving my workspace.
The integration value is the main reason to use Notion AI rather than a more powerful standalone model. If your business runs in Notion, the friction reduction is real.
Zapier / Make — Automation
Not technically AI, but worth including: automation tools let you connect your business tools so information flows without manual intervention. New sale notification to email → customer tagged in CRM → delivery email sent. You set it up once, it runs indefinitely.
What I'd Buy First
If I were starting a digital product business today with a limited tool budget, here's what I'd prioritize in order:
- ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) — the Swiss army knife; needed for content creation, sales copy, and research
- Canva Pro ($13–$15/month) — essential for product design and marketing visuals
- A proper digital product platform — this is where I'd invest in something like MadeThis rather than trying to cobble together free tools
Everything else is an upgrade once your business is generating revenue. The tools above will get you to your first $500 and beyond.
The mistake I see new creators make is spending weeks comparing tool options instead of building a product and getting it in front of buyers. The tools are the enablers. The product and the audience are the actual business.
